xLight Inc. is seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to advance AI/ML-driven accelerator control and modeling.

You will collaborate with physicists and ML researchers to translate research into production-ready software and autonomous operations for industrial accelerators. Join a startup-like team focused on cutting-edge simulation, digital twins, and scalable visualization, with a hybrid work model across key sites in California.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience in scientific computing, ML applications, or physics-based systems.
• Proficient in Python with emphasis on clean code, docs, and unit testing.
• Experience with numpy, pytorch, pydantic.
• Git and collaborative development workflows (PRs, code reviews).
• Familiarity with HPC environments and cluster systems (SLURM or equivalent).
• CI/CD and deployment practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a virtual accelerator, a simulation service with same control interface as the physical machine.
• Integrate physics codes via a common interface layer (e.g., LUME) for versioned, reproducible models.
• Build a digital twin layer syncing models with the machine using telemetry and calibration history.
• Stand up immersive 3D visualization with NVIDIA Omniverse/OpenUSD for design reviews and training.
• Provide the simulation backend for automated startup, optimization, and ML workflows.
• Develop testing infrastructure: scenario replay, regression testing, and hardware-in-the-loop benches.
