Job summary

Focused Energy is building the future of clean energy through laser-driven inertial fusion. The role sits at the intersection of ML engineering and computational physics, embedding data-driven intelligence into our Digital Twin architecture and high-energy laser systems.

You will design, build, and deploy ML models to accelerate multiphysics simulations, enable real-time decision support, and optimize sensor data integration across laser, targetry, and fusion programs.

Qualifications

• Must have an advanced degree in a closely related field.
• Proven experience building, training, and deploying ML models for complex physical systems.
• Strong command of deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow/JAX).
• Experience with HPC environments (MPI/OpenMP) and PDE-based data.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy surrogate and reduced-order models for multiphysics simulations.
• Develop physics-informed ML (PINNs) embedding physical constraints.
• Build ML pipelines for training, validation, and uncertainty quantification.
• Implement active learning and Bayesian optimization to guide design space exploration.
• Integrate ML models into Digital Twin framework interfacing with HPC outputs and sensor data.
• Develop anomaly detection and predictive diagnostics for system health.
• Apply reinforcement learning for autonomous optimization of laser operating parameters.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to meet fidelity and latency requirements.
• Establish model versioning, reproducibility, and thorough documentation.
