Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Lead Software Engineer within the Center for Translational Data Science to lead and mentor teams, develop web applications, and ensure high-quality production software across cloud-based platforms.

You will design, implement, test, and maintain complex systems, collaborate across multiple teams, and guide open-source and internal projects using AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern languages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 7+ years of software development experience in a related role.
• Experience with full-stack web applications and multiple languages (Python, JavaScript, C/C++).
• Experience with CI/CD, cloud platforms, and container technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of top-priority technical tasks with timely delivery.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate teams across projects.
• Develop and maintain web applications and production software.
• Collaborate with research and administrative teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Triage production issues and optimize performance across cloud environments.
