About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding financial technology company, is looking for a talented and experienced Lead Software Engineer specializing in backend development with Java and the Spring framework. This role, based in Welkom, Free State , offers a fantastic opportunity to architect, design, and implement robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems. You will lead a team of skilled engineers, guiding them through the full software development lifecycle, from initial concept to deployment and maintenance. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of microservices architecture, cloud technologies (AWS/Azure), and best practices in software engineering. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical vision, ensuring code quality, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration within the engineering department in Welkom . This position requires a blend of strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable and resilient backend services using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
• Architect and build microservices-based applications, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Mentor and guide a team of software engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other engineering teams to define requirements and technical solutions.
• Conduct code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, security best practices, and overall code quality.
• Optimize application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions.
• Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to improve development efficiency and product quality.
• Contribute to the deployment pipeline, CI/CD processes, and cloud infrastructure management (AWS/Azure).
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in backend software development, with a strong emphasis on Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud).
• Proven experience in a technical lead or senior engineering role.
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, including relevant services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and data modeling.
• Experience with messaging queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and caching mechanisms.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Docker).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
