Job description

Osprey Flight Solutions · Full-time · Remote, home-based · Reports to Head of Engineering

Why this role, why now

You'd lead a cross‑functional delivery team at Osprey, not just contribute to one. You're the interface between your team and the Head of Engineering Excellence, accountable for what your team ships, while staying hands‑on rather than managing from a distance. Osprey's stack is full‑stack .NET and React, and this is a genuinely remote role, home‑based, backed by a £40 million growth investment as the company builds out engineering to match.

You'll also lead by example on agentic coding practices, coaching your team on how AI‑assisted development actually gets used well, not just adopted for its own sake.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead delivery of new capabilities and maintenance work, as an individual contributor or by leading other engineers, whichever the moment calls for.
  • Coach and promote agentic coding practices across your team, leading by example rather than mandating from above.
  • Own your team's delivery: track progress against plan, surface impediments early, and solve what you can before escalating.
  • Design solutions within Osprey's reference architecture, and bring the more complex proposals to the working group for discussion.
  • Run estimation and story breakdown sessions that keep delivery in small, shippable iterations.
  • Delegate work in a way that balances getting things done with growing your team's skills, and mentor them day to day.
  • Review your team's work against technical standards for scalability, security and sustainability, and manage releases in close collaboration with the release management group.
  • Support product discovery with the Platform Team, and horizon‑scan emerging technology that could genuinely move Osprey's products forward.
What you'll bring
  • Full‑stack .NET and React development experience.
  • A track record leading delivery in an Agile, SaaS environment.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment and adjusting plans when things change.
  • Clear, effective communication, written and verbal.
  • Real ability to lead and delegate to a cross‑functional team, not just manage tasks.
How we work

Honesty and integrity, first and always. Ideas get examined in the open, and feedback goes both ways. Real ownership, and the humility to ask for help before it's needed. One team, one purpose, we lift as we climb.

Even better if you have
  • A relationship‑based approach to project management, comfortable resolving conflict directly rather than avoiding it.
  • Experience mentoring engineers into more senior or lead roles themselves.
A summary of what’s on offer
  • Holiday: 25 days’ paid annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Pension: Osprey matches your contribution at 4% of gross basic salary (on top of your own 4%) via the Smart Pension scheme, with an optional salary sacrifice arrangement that saves on National Insurance for both sides.
  • Private healthcare: Comprehensive AXA cover from the end of probation, including inpatient/day-patient treatment, cancer cover, a 24/7 virtual GP, a health support line, and cashback on dental (up to £400/year) and optical (up to £200/year) costs.
  • Life insurance: A tax‑free lump sum of up to 4x basic salary from the end of probation, with an employee assistance programme, virtual GP access and will‑writing support.
  • Financial wellbeing: Free access to Lifetime, a financial coaching app with a personal wellbeing coach, an annual financial plan and educational tools, plus optional access to a regulated financial advisor.
  • Family-friendly policies: Maternity, paternity/secondary carer, adoption and shared parental leave, fertility and IVF support, flexible working, and carer’s/emergency leave.
  • Other perks: Cycle to Work scheme, an eyecare contribution through the AXA plan, professional membership and subscription fees paid where relevant to the role, and a £1,500 referral bonus once the person you refer completes probation.
