Amperity seeks a Lead Software Development Engineer to guide and scale the infrastructure platform in Seattle. You will own the multi-year North Star for internal services and Spark-based data processing, aligning technical direction with business value and product strategy.

You’ll mentor senior engineers, drive architectural clarity, and collaborate with product teams to translate complex tradeoffs into measurable outcomes for a high-performing team.

Lead Software Development Engineer - Infrastructure

Amperity’s work model operates on four in-office days each week and one designated remote workday on Wednesdays.

Key Responsibilities

• Amperity is looking for a Lead Software Development Engineer to join Team BASS. Team BASS is the "Swiss-army-knife" of our engineering organization, overseeing the critical intersection of developer productivity, shared service platforms, and high-scale Spark infrastructure.
• You will be the team's strategic anchor, bringing the deep experience necessary to evaluate enterprise patterns. You will establish a multi-year strategic North Star for our internal platforms. You will work with Product and partners to connect the technical strategy to product strategy, customer value, our priorities, and measurable outcomes. We need a leader who has seen complex problems solved at scale in multiple ways and can translate that wisdom into clear, simple technical direction for a high-performing team.

Requirements

• Technical leadership experience with experience leading architectural strategy for high-scale, distributed systems.
• Expertise in large-scale data processing (Spark or a similar distributed framework) , with the ability to evaluate complex enterprise patterns and explain the "why" behind architectural choices.
• A love for learning and the ability to ramp up quickly on new stacks: While we use Clojure, we value your ability to apply deep architectural principles to our language of choice.
• Practitioner-level knowledge of AI/ML: Experience with integration of AI/ML best practices, specifically how to leverage LLMs and agentic workflows for infrastructure automation and developer velocity.
• Expertise in driving clarity within complex environments , showing the ability to turn high-level business or technical uncertainty into concrete engineering direction.
• Experience working with diverse partners to translate technical tradeoffs into outcomes that serve both the business and the long-term health of the platform.
• A demonstrated history of mentorship , having coached other senior engineers and built technical pipelines that outlast any single project.
