Job summary

STR Sensors Division in Boston, MA seeks a Lead Software Developer for the Space Mission Sector to advance embedded software for real‑time signal processing in RF sensing applications.

You will collaborate with STR teams, academia, and industry partners to design, develop, and test software across diverse programs. Travel to customer sites and government test locations is expected, with emphasis on strong technical and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance; eligible for SAP programs.
  • Experience with GNU/Linux toolchains and open source software.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or similar real-time embedded languages.
  • Comfortable with Python and/or MATLAB programming languages.
  • Experience with firmware languages such as VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience with IDEs, version control, scripting, and break‑point debugging.
  • Understanding of software design patterns and hardware interfacing techniques.
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience, depending on degree level.

Job description

STR Sensors Division is at the forefront of developing advanced signal processing algorithms and prototyping systems for next‑generation radar and electronic warfare technologies. The group fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration. You will be a member of a dynamic group of research engineers across STR, academic researchers, and industry partners to develop practical and effective solutions to RF sensing and counter‑sensing challenges.

Lead Software Developer – Space Mission Sector

Candidate will support a multitude of programs with a range of system capabilities and maturity level. System capability will be tested over the air locally and at government test locations. Strong technical, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are desired.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the STR team to understand capability requirements, brainstorm solutions, and evaluate the pros and cons of each to inform decisions
  • Develop and implement embedded systems software for advanced real‑time signal processing applications
  • Potential travel to customer meetings and/or data collections and experiments is expected
Qualifications

  • Experience developing software with GNU/Linux toolchains using open source software
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or similar real‑time embedded programming languages
  • Comfortable using Python and/or MATLAB programming languages
  • Experience with firmware languages such as VHDL and/or Verilog
  • Experience with software tools including IDEs, version control, tracking, scripting, and break‑point debugging
  • Working knowledge of software design patterns and best practices
  • Understanding of software‑hardware interfacing techniques and implementations
  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and a desire for developing software
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • 5–7+ years of experience, depending on degree level
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
  • Knowledge of real‑time multi‑threaded embedded software, preferably on Linux OS
  • Experience writing software using a large multi‑party code base
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment with measurement equipment and performing quantitative data analysis
  • Experience developing software using hardware accelerators such as GPUs, DSPs, and FPGAs
  • Experience implementing software using SoCs such as Xilinx MPSoC or RFSoC
  • Experience with machine learning techniques
  • Real‑time optimization of signal processing algorithms developed in languages like MATLAB or Python
Pay Information

Full‑time salary range: $157,000 – $223,000.

Pay is based on external market data and factors such as experience, education, training, key skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
