Job summary

Waymo LLC is seeking an experienced Software Reliability Engineer to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems for autonomous vehicle operations. You will own end-to-end availability across fleet services, design reliable architectures, and mentor teams to improve operational excellence.

The role requires 8+ years in software reliability with strong coding in C++, Java, or Python, and a track record of leading cross-functional initiatives. Occasional Bay Area travel is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience architecting and maintaining mission-critical systems in C++, Java, or Python.
• Proven depth and breadth of knowledge in software reliability.
• Led the reliability program of a complex system (autonomous, cloud, or large-scale web service).
• Experience communicating a shared vision, strategy, and priorities across orgs.
• Influence beyond immediate area to impact program direction.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives between Engineering and Dev.
• Bachelor's degree or 10+ years leadership/high-growth experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end availability and performance for core fleet services.
• Write designs and implement software to improve system architecture, telemetry or deployment.
• Provide technical leadership and direction while troubleshooting complex reliability issues.
• Arbitrate in cases of technical disagreement to set global architectural guidelines.
• Lead cross-functional collaborations to integrate projects into reusable components.
• Drive operational standards and participate in on-call rotation.
