Job summary

Waymo is seeking an experienced SRE Tech Lead to drive reliability, performance, and resilience of critical services across our autonomous mobility platforms. You will lead incident response, capacity planning, and post-incident improvements for a planet-scale production system.

The role reports to the Head of Site Reliability Engineering and requires deep C++ coding, distributed systems expertise, and strong collaboration across Onboard, Eval and Simulator teams. Hybrid work is expected.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
15+ years of experience building and operating large-scale production software systems, especially ML-based.
15+ years of hands-on coding in C++.
Experience organizing and running on-call rotations.
Strong influence without authority and collaborative skills.
Deep expertise in architecting large-scale distributed systems, observability, monitoring, and incident management.

Responsibilities

Drive incident response processes, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
Organize on-call rotations for release-oriented outages and disaster recovery planning.
Harden software, develop playbooks, and improve on-call metrics and post-mitigation workstreams.
Lead engineering analysis for novel or rare events during development cycles.
Promote reliability engineering across the organization and partner with multiple teams.
