Job description

PLEASE NOTE - This position may require temporarily relocation to other TONHC Facilities: Sells Hospital, Santa Rosa Health Center, San Simon Health Center, Casa Grande, and San Xavier Health Center.

Position Summary:

This position is located at Tohono O'odham Nation Sells Hospital in Sells, Arizona. The incumbent performs a fullrange of security and protective service duties to safeguard patients, visitors, staff, facilities, equipment, andproperty. Responsibilities include conducting security patrols, monitoring building access, responding to incidentsand emergencies, investigating security concerns, enforcing facility rules and regulations, and supporting crimeprevention and safety initiatives.

Scope of Work:

Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous and unpredictable situations requiring the use of establishedsafety procedures, sound judgment, and appropriate security protocols. The incumbent is required to wear adesignated uniform and may be required to carry assigned security equipment. Call-back duty and emergency overtime are requirements of the position. Work regularly includes second, third, rotating, weekend, and holidayshifts. The incumbent performs routine assignments independently while exercising judgment in applying securityprocedures and responding to operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, distribute, and balance work assignments among staff to ensure timely and efficient completionof workload requirements.
  • Monitor work progress and adjust daily priorities to maintain operational effectiveness and meet establisheddeadlines.
  • Maintain operational records, logs, and reports, including work accomplishments, incident documentation,and workload statistics.
  • Provide on-the-job training, technical guidance, and instruction to employees on work methods, procedures,and safety requirements.
  • Develop and maintain written procedures, reference materials, and training resources.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for employees by interpreting and explaining policies, procedures,directives, and operational requirements.
  • Review work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with established standards, taking corrective action whennecessary.
  • Ensure employees have adequate resources, equipment, and working conditions to perform assigned duties.
  • Approve short-term leave requests and address routine employee concerns in accordance with establishedpolicies.
  • Provide performance feedback and recommendations regarding employee development, recognition, training,reassignment, and other personnel actions.
  • Conduct routine security patrols and inspections of facilities, grounds, perimeters, and security systems tosafeguard personnel and property.
  • Control access to restricted areas by verifying credentials and enforcing established security procedures.
  • Monitor alarm systems, surveillance equipment, communication networks, and other security-relatedtechnologies.
  • Respond to emergencies, disturbances, security incidents, medical situations, fires, natural disasters, andother critical events; coordinate response efforts as required.
  • Secure incident scenes, document events, coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders, andmaintain incident records.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulations, and safety standards, andcarry out other related responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham Nation's culture, customs, traditions, and community values.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and detention authorities, includinglimitations on the use of force and the rights of individuals.
  • Knowledge of security, surveillance, and monitoring methods, techniques, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including building, gas, water, and electrical shut-off systems.
  • Knowledge of self-defense principles and personal safety practices.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service and maintaining professional interactions with internal andexternal customers.
  • Skill in operating two-way radio and other communications equipment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and apply appropriate procedures and techniques in a variety ofsituations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and establish productive working relationshipswith employees, public safety personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods under varying environmental and weather conditions whilemaintaining public trust through professional and lawful conduct on and off duty.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Three (3) years of work experience in a related field.
  • One year of supervisory experience or lead responsibilities.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or must obtain within (6) months ofhire.
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as required.
  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required todetermine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within thelast three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive adriver's permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the TohonoO'odham language and English as a condition of employment.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, orfeel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. This job's specific visionabilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work requires

regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities when responding to alarms, pursuing subjects, or participating in training. Workmay also require lifting or carrying heavy objects 50 lbs. or less and agility, dexterity, and strength to pursue,apprehend, detain uncooperative subjects or defend oneself or others against physical attack. Work is performedin settings where regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as adverseweather conditions during summer and winter temperatures.
