Grand Canyon University Inc. seeks a hands-on access control technician to install, service, and troubleshoot security systems and electrified door hardware in diverse environments across campus facilities and client sites.

You will wire, program, test, and commission access control panels, integrate systems using Wiegand/OSDP, and coordinate with project teams. A focus on safe, clean installations and accurate documentation drives success; requires strong problem-solving and physical dexterity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience with access control and low voltage related work.
  • Experience with Lenel, Verkada, Axis, Allegion, Assa Abloy preferred.
  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification is a bonus.

  • Install, wire, and trim out head-end access control panels with clean workmanship.
  • Install and service electrified door hardware (panic devices, locks, operators).
  • Configure, program and integrate security and access control systems.

Job description

Put your access control and low-voltage expertise to work in a role where no two projects are exactly alike.We’re looking for a hands-on technician with experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting access control, electrified door hardware, low-voltage cabling, security systems, and related technology. You’ll have the opportunity to work with systems and manufacturers such as Lenel, Verkada, Axis, Allegion, and ASSA ABLOY, while supporting projects from initial installation and wiring through programming, testing, troubleshooting, and final completion.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, takes pride in clean and professional installations, and thrives in a collaborative environment.Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:Install, wire, and trim out head-end access control panels with clean and professional workmanshipInstall and service a wide range of electrified door hardware including items such as panic devices, vertical rods, magnetic locks, transfer hinges, cylindrical/mortise locks, auto operators.Configure, program and integrate security and access control systemsInstall, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and testing on various types of cable and equipment.Pulls cables through physical structures such as walls, overhead, above drop ceilings and in ground.Coordinate with subcontractors and internal project teams on completion of access control and low voltage projectsInstallation and removal of equipment which may include projectors, projector screens, speakers, podium equipment, cameras and any other type of audio-visual equipmentMaintain accurate documentation, work order notes and communications for all tickets and projects, both verbally and in writing.May have to move on site equipment, tools, furniture, etc. above 50 lbs.May have to maneuver around small areas such as attics, crawl hatches, etc. for cabling.May have to climb ladders, work on power lifts, or climb scaffolding to complete work orders.Must be able to distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals.Adhere to all quality and safety codes for low voltage installations and repairs.Other duties as assigned.Equipment Used and ResponsibilityAbility to test and identify equipment and cable functionality.Familiar with Wiegand, OSDP, and other forms of access control communication.Able to operate required hand tools, power tools and low voltage test equipment.Must be able to work on ladders, lifts and scaffolding for installation needs.Must have good hand dexterity and calmness.Must be able to distinguish colors.Able to troubleshoot malfunction in equipment or cable and problem solve.Must be able to complete work orders timely and accurately.Effective communications and interpersonal skills.Experience/ EducationHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.Minimum 2 years’ work experience with access control and low voltage related work. Preferred in an environment such as an AV integrator, access control technicians or commercial cabling firms.Experience with Lenel, Verkada, Axis, Allegion, Assa Abloy is preferredExperience with troubleshooting and installing electrified door hardwareExperience with RS485, Weigand and OSDP wiringCompTIA A+ and Network+ certification is a bonus.Must have a current AZ driver’s license and clean driver record.Must successfully pass a background check.#INDLOPESUP
