Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, TX seeks a Research Scientist II in the Single Cell Genomics Service Center to advance innovative biomedical research. You will design and implement pipelines for large-scale genomics data and collaborate with wet-lab teams to interpret results.

The role requires a PhD and experience in transcriptomics or spatial transcriptomics, strong coding skills (Python, R, Perl), cloud/HPC familiarity, and the ability to publish findings.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or D.V.M in related field with at least one year of related experience.
• Experience in transcriptomics, epigenomics, or metagenomics.
• Experience in spatial transcriptomics data analysis (Xenium or other platforms).
• Familiarity with cloud computing and HPC environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python, R, and Perl.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell/spatial transcriptomics data.
• Collaborate with wet-lab researchers to design experiments and interpret results.
• Develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and software with documentation.
• Process sequencing data and deliver results to researchers.
• Publish scientific papers and reports summarizing findings.
• Other duties as assigned.
