Job description

Who We Are:

At Veranova, we believe people are our most important asset, and we are dedicated to building the most talented and diverse workforce in our industry. Our commitment to uncompromising focus on quality, compliance, safety, and excellence in delivery shapes everything we do. We are not just looking for skills; we are seeking innovative individuals who have a mindset open to learning and growth, and a desire to make a difference.

Veranova is a global leader in the development and manufacturing of complex active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for pharma and biotech customers. With deep technical expertise and impressive flexibility, we develop solutions and processes that support and accelerate innovation.

Join us on our mission to enable current and next-generation therapeutics to improve and save the lives of patients.

Role Overview:

Join our dynamic Chemical Process Research & Development team as a Senior Scientist. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and intermediates by championing and implementing cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. Your primary focus will be on leveraging your expertise in flow chemistry, Process Analytical Technologies (PAT), lab automation, and predictive modeling to design, develop, and optimize innovative, robust, and scalable chemical processes.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead the design, development, and optimization of flow chemistry processes for API and intermediate synthesis.
  • Implement and utilize Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) for real-time reaction monitoring, data acquisition, kinetic understanding, and process control.
  • Employ lab automation systems and automated workstations to streamline experimental workflows, enable high-throughput screening, and enhance data quality.
  • Develop and apply kinetic, mechanistic, and process models to deepen understanding, guide experimental design, and accelerate the optimization of continuous and batch processes.
  • Drive the adoption and scale-up of innovative continuous manufacturing solutions from laboratory to pilot plant.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including analytical chemists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel, providing technical leadership in your areas of expertise.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of experiments, results, technical reports, and contributions to intellectual property.
Qualifications:

Required
  • PhD in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; or an MS/BS degree with significant equivalent industrial experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in chemical process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, executing, and optimizing flow chemistry processes.
  • In-depth, practical experience with Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) (e.g., FTIR, Raman, online UPLC/HPLC, FBRM) for in-situ reaction monitoring and control.
  • Proficiency in lab automation tools, automated reactor systems (e.g., Mettler Toledo, Syrris, Vapourtec), and associated control software.
  • Experience with chemical process modeling and simulation software (e.g., Dynochem, Aspen, MATLAB, gPROMS) and its application to reaction kinetics, process understanding, or optimization.
  • Deep understanding of organic reaction mechanisms, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena as they apply to continuous processing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and a proactive approach to innovation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with the development and scale-up of API manufacturing processes under GMP guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE) principles and statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP).
Our Commitment:

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive health & Wellness benefits. Access to mental health resources and wellness programs. Generous PTO and holiday pay policies.
  • Financial Wellness: Comprehensive total compensation package that includes competitive base salary, Defined Contribution Pension program, eligibility for performance-based bonuses, and attractive 401(k) Plan with company match.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for continuous learning through LinkedIn Learning, workshops, conferences, and mentorship. Tuition Assistance for Undergraduate and Graduate degree programs.
  • Inclusive Culture: At Veranova an inclusive culture is integral to our values. We are committed to ensuring that everyone can bring their full self to work and thrive in their career.
