Job summary

The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School is seeking a Lead Chef to oversee meal preparation and quality control for over 1,000 students daily, with a creative, mission-driven kitchen leadership role. You’ll mentor culinary staff, develop menus for regular meals and special events, ensure food safety, and collaborate with the Executive Chef and team.

This is a fully on-site, Monday–Friday position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years professional cooking experience in a restaurant or food service environment.
Strong grasp of cooking methods, ingredient handling and kitchen operations.
New York City Food Protection Certificate strongly preferred.
Reliable, punctual and detail-oriented with excellent communication in a fast-paced kitchen.

Responsibilities

Lead Meal Preparation and Quality Control: oversee meals, design menus for events.
Team Leadership and Guidance: mentor assistants and ensure following SOPs.
Menu Development and Feedback: contribute to new items and improve dishes.
Operational Support and Coordination: assist in daily kitchen operations.
Food Safety and Compliance: enforce food safety protocols and hygiene.
Strategic Contributions: participate in leadership meetings to improve kitchen performance.
