Job summary

Chesapeake Montessori is seeking a Lead Teacher for the School Age program in Chesapeake, VA. The role requires a Bachelor's degree, Montessori training, or current certification progress, plus classroom experience.

The position runs Monday through Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, with a competitive benefits package. The Lead Teacher will plan developmentally appropriate activities, implement curriculum weekly, and maintain strong family relationships while ensuring a safe, engaging classroom environment

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Montessori training or in the process of obtaining certification with classroom experience.
• Experience in early childhood education and a classroom setting.
• Montessori methods knowledge is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare developmentally appropriate lesson plans a week in advance using current curriculum guides.
• Implement weekly curricula across all areas of child development following classroom schedule and use parent app for communications.
• Establish rapport with families to provide quality care and maintain safety and a clean classroom.
• Attend to safety and wellbeing of each child and support emotional and physical needs.
• Maintain child assessments and portfolios; conduct biannual conferences in November and May.

Job description

Chesapeake Montessori is a licensed childcare center seeking a Lead Teacher to support the following age groups:

• School Age

Bachelor's degree, Montessori Training, or an applicant who is in the process of obtaining certification as well as classroom experience.

Required Shift:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm

Compensation:

$18- $20 an hour based on experience and education

Main Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate one week in advance using current curriculum guides.
• Implement lesson plans/curriculum on a weekly basis covering all areas of child development and carry out lesson plans according to classroom schedule/daily routine; Use our parent communication app efficiently.
• Establish a professional level of rapport with each family to provide quality care for the children.
• Responsible for the safety and well-being of each child, responding to their emotional needs; and maintaining an organized, clean, safe, and appropriately decorated classroom.
• Maintain a child assessment and portfolio for each child, as well as conduct biannual parent/teacher conferences during the month of November and May.
• Physical ability to work around small children including sitting, standing, walking, running, and climbing stairs.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and fulfill all physical requirements of the role.
• Carry out the daily responsibilities of the classroom relating to the care of the children.
