Job summary

Motional seeks a hands-on Principal Engineer Team Lead to drive design, validation, and scaling of safety functions and performance targets. Lead a high-performing team with real-world crash data, large-scale simulation, and on-road testing to determine vehicle operation boundaries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Functional Safety, Autonomous Systems, or Robotics, with deep expertise in one.
• 3+ years leading safety-critical development/validation programs for autonomous driving or related tech.
• Hands-on technical leader with proven track record of growing high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Own safety-critical functions and benchmark program across safety, comfort, and assertiveness.
• Define requirements, thresholds, and acceptance criteria and prove them out.
• Scale through tooling: crash database analysis, event ingestion, and automated monitoring.
• Deliver safety case evidence: hazard analysis, STPA, FMEA, requirements, and coverage.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team with cross-functional collaboration.
