POSITION TITLE: Lead Safety Officer

REPORTS TO: Director of School Safety

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs duties to provide oversight for the day-to-day field operations for the HSD School Safety Department.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Provides for liaison with local police, fire and other public safety agencies;
2. Maintain positive working relationships with all school staff as well as with representatives from companies and businesses;
3. Assist with new employee orientation and training of safety officers and crossing guards;
4. Ensures accountability for maintenance and inventory of security equipment (i.e., vehicles, radios and uniforms);
5. Performs personnel evaluations of safety officers and crossing guards;
6. Conduct monthly field inspections of safety officers;
7. Coordinate safety assignments for after school activities with the Elementary Principals, Activity Directors, and School Resource Officers;
8. Coordinate calls for security at schools;
9. Review reports, requests, logs, and written assignments submitted by safety officers for clarity and completeness;
10. Assume duties of a safety officer when necessary;
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, observing.
2. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, required.

1. Subject to both inside and outside working conditions.
2. Subject to extreme weather conditions.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of three years of school security experience is required.

License(s)/Certification(s) required: Must possess a current Metropolitan St. Louis County Security Officer License and a valid state Driver’s License.

Skills and Abilities:

1. Ability to work with school personnel, student population, police agencies and the general public.
2. Must possess positive, effective “people skills”.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:

Computer and related software, CCTV camera system, two-way radio, and other miscellaneous office equipment. Must be able to operate a vehicle.
