Job summary

Absher Construction is seeking a Safety Manager (SSHO) to lead safety implementation on federal construction projects and to act as the on-site authority for safety compliance. The role requires embedding safety into daily operations and partnering with project teams to ensure strict adherence to APP, EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and related regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience with at least 3 years on federal or EM 385 governed projects.
• OSHA 30 certification is required.
• First Aid/CPR certification required.
• Strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and federal safety compliance requirements.
• Experience serving as an SSHO on federal construction projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Site Specific Safety Plans.
• Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and all project safety requirements.
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
• Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and daily safety engagement with field teams.
• Review and coordinate subcontractor safety plans and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
• Maintain required safety documentation, reports, and project safety records.
• Serve as the designated Competent Person for applicable safety disciplines.
• Partner with Superintendents and Project Managers to integrate safety into daily work planning.
• Identify hazards early and mitigate risks before work begins.
• Act as the primary safety liaison between project team, subcontractors, and client/governing agency.
