Michigan Medicine, in collaboration with the ASICS x Michigan Sport Innovation Center (AMSI), seeks a Lead Running Biomechanist for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position to advance high-performance gait analysis and translational sport science.

The role combines lab-based data collection, multi-technique motion capture, musculoskeletal modeling, and collaboration with engineers, clinicians, and elite athletes to drive real-world product development and performance insights.

Qualifications

• PhD in Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated extensive hands-on experience in running gait biomechanics and data collection.
• Strong publication record in gait biomechanics.
• Expertise with OpenSim for internal joint contact forces and muscle-tendon dynamics.
• Hands-on experience with motion capture and force-plate integration.
• Proficient programming for custom processing and modeling (MATLAB, Python, R).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple studies concurrently.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Passion for sport science with real-world translational impact.

Responsibilities

• Administer lab-based biomechanical assessments for high-performance running.
• Lead data collection and analysis using marker-based and markerless motion capture.
• Develop and maintain data processing pipelines for large biomechanical datasets.
• Author high-impact manuscripts and present findings at conferences.
• Mentor students and oversee project operations within a multidisciplinary team.
