Job summary

Placements24, Randburg-based leader in automation, seeks a Senior Robotics Engineer to design, develop, and test advanced robotic systems for industrial and research use. The role leads projects, mentors engineers, and advances next-generation robotics technologies.

Responsibilities include ROS-based development, C++/Python programming, and collaboration across mechanical, electrical, and software teams in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in robotics design, development, and implementation.
• Proficiency in robotic operating systems (ROS) and simulation environments.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python are essential.
• Experience with control systems, motion planning, and sensor integration (e.g., cameras, LiDAR, IMUs).
• Knowledge of industrial automation principles and safety standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience with machine learning for robotics applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and integrate robotic systems, including robotic arms, mobile robots, and automated machinery.
• Develop and implement control algorithms, path planning, and motion control strategies.
• Program robots using relevant languages and software platforms (e.g., ROS, C++, Python).
• Conduct system testing, debugging, and performance optimization to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers.
• Develop technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
• Mentor junior robotics engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in robotics, AI, and automation technologies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in robotic systems.
