Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care in the surgical services environment. The role requires collaboration with faculty, participation in rounds, and mentoring of staff within the operative setting.

The position emphasizes effective problem solving, proper documentation, and adherence to safety protocols, with involvement in service line activities and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an NLN approved nursing program.
• 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse (Surgery, Day Surgery, PACU, GI Lab experience).
• Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) nursing license and
• BLS and ACLS certifications required for GI Lab, PACU and related areas.
• Moderate sedation required for GI Lab.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care. Serves as role model to other staff when providing direct patient care.
• Makes daily patient rounds and conducts chart audits; mentors nursing personnel.
• Reviews staffing and nursing assignments and adjusts to meet patient needs.
• Addresses physician, patient and family concerns; reports and follows up on issues with the Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Provides input for performance reviews and participates in staff orientation and training.
• Assists with scheduling and daily assignments; oversees equipment and supply needs.
