Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a Lead Risk Assessor supervisor to oversee regional staff performing inspections and investigations related to elevated blood lead levels in children. The role requires maintaining EPA certification and coordinating with public health teams.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma with health program experience or a relevant bachelor's degree, and preference for EPA certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
  • Bachelor's degree may substitute for certain work experience.
  • EPA Lead Risk Assessor certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise regional staff performing inspections, evaluations, and investigations into elevated blood lead levels in children.
  • Obtain and maintain EPA certification as a Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor.
  • Direct and supervise regional staff (certified lead risk assessors) of the MCH/CHPS/Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program who conduct investigations and lead risk assessments in homes and other locations associated with elevated blood lead levels in children.
  • Audit summary reports and SCION entries for environmental assessments; provide feedback to staff to ensure completeness and compliance with laws and procedures; assist in staff training.
  • Coordinate with Office of General Counsel, regional public health nurses, and staff involved in prevention of childhood lead poisoning.
  • Additional duties including MEPS participation in emergency response, on-call or call-back 24/7.
