Job Summary

The Lead Respiratory Therapist performs at the level of a highly competent advanced practitioner of respiratory care. Therapists promoted to this level function in a core or resource role, with expertise and skills in a specialized clinical area with complex patient acuity. They demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  1. Administers pharmacologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic agents related to respiratory care procedures necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, pulmonary rehabilitation, or diagnostic regimens prescribed by a physician.
  2. Observes and monitors signs and symptoms, behavior, physical response to respiratory care, and diagnostic testing to determine abnormal characteristics.
  3. Develops and implements care plans based on patient assessments, utilizing respiratory protocols to optimize outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  4. Promotes continuous learning and seeks opportunities to develop self and others as part of a self-directed team.
  5. Works efficiently within and across clinical settings to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
  6. Demonstrates competence, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age-specific patient needs in a specialty area.
  7. Participates in training and certification courses to develop expertise and become certified in specialized clinical areas.
  8. Provides clinical leadership to respiratory staff, serving as a hospital-wide resource, coaching, mentoring, and precepting patients and staff.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an AMA-approved Respiratory program (must obtain within 3 years of hire). An Associate's Degree may be considered based on experience and criteria at the discretion of the Director and Human Resources. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as an RRT with advanced knowledge through additional training and certifications.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC
  • Valid Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner license
  • ACLS / Critical Care Certification
