Overview

The Respiratory Therapist Lead is a healthcare professional who is a graduate of a Program in Respiratory Care approved by CoARC, licensed by the State of Connecticut as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, and recognized by NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The RT Lead supervises and coordinates the work activities of department personnel on their shift, performs clinical activities in assessment, treatment, and education of patients with respiratory problems, and demonstrates expertise in all therapies and services offered by the department. The RT Lead serves as a role model, mentor, and resource to therapists and other patient care team members. Additionally, the RT Lead assists with scheduling, operational coordination, staff competence assessment, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Application of Respiratory Care: Provides age-specific respiratory care efficiently and resourcefully, including assessment of pulmonary status, blood gas interpretation, and diagnostic procedures.
  2. Documentation and Communication: Accurately documents all care via electronic records, maintains patient confidentiality, and ensures effective communication within the team.
  3. Consultation and Collaboration: Communicates clearly with team members, provides comprehensive patient reports using SBAR, and facilitates smooth shift transitions.
  4. Self-Development and Leadership: Maintains clinical competency through ongoing education, participates in professional organizations, and demonstrates leadership qualities.
  5. Department Operations: Assists with scheduling, operational activities, staff assessments, outpatient services, and equipment maintenance, collaborating with managers and staff.
Qualifications

Education: Completion of an accredited Respiratory Care Program, current CT license, NBRC registration, and preferred BSc degree.

Experience: At least 5 years as an RRT in critical care, pediatric, or neonatal settings, with 2+ years at YNHS as RT III. Leadership experience is a plus.

Licensure: CT RCP license, BLS, and advanced life support as appropriate.

Skills: Expert in respiratory assessments and procedures, excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
