Job summary

Chads Design Build in Madison, WI, is seeking an experienced Lead Residential Carpenter for our Madison remodeling projects. You will lead carpentry on kitchens, baths, basements, additions, and full-home renovations, reading plans and ensuring quality craftsmanship.

We value independence, strong problem-solving, and mentoring junior carpenters. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required, with competitive pay of $45-$50/hour plus benefits in a collaborative team

Qualifications

• 5+ years of residential remodeling or construction experience.
• Advanced general and finish carpentry skills.
• Strong experience reading construction plans and drawings.
• Ability to lead field work and guide less experienced carpenters.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Professional communication and a team-first approach.

Responsibilities

• Perform framing, finish carpentry, trim, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other detailed construction work.
• Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Coordinate day-to-day field activities with project managers and other team members.
• Help keep projects moving efficiently and identify potential issues before they affect schedules.
• Mentor and support developing carpenters.
• Communicate professionally with homeowners, trade partners, project managers, and coworkers.
• Take ownership of work from initial layout through final details and punch-list completion.

What You'll Do

• Lead carpentry work on residential remodeling projects, including kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, and whole‑home renovations
• Perform and oversee framing, finish carpentry, trim, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other detailed construction work
• Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
• Coordinate day‑to‑day field activities with project managers and other team members
• Help keep projects moving efficiently and identify potential issues before they affect schedules
• Troubleshoot field challenges and make practical, informed decisionsMaintain high standards for craftsmanship, jobsite safety, cleanliness, and organization
• Mentor and support developing carpenters
• Communicate professionally with homeowners, trade partners, project managers, and coworkers
• Take ownership of work from initial layout through final details and punch‑list completion

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of residential remodeling or construction experience
