Job summary

The New York State Department of Health is seeking a Research Scientist 3 to provide expert support to local health units on vector-borne disease issues and to track funding for the Lyme and Tick-borne disease initiative. The role includes managing contracts, payments, procurement for educational materials, and developing regular fund balance reports for DEPI and CCH management.

The incumbent will conduct and supervise vector-borne disease research, train local jurisdictions in surveillance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology/public health/epidemiology or related field and 4 years post-degree research experience.
  • Master’s or PhD may substitute for experience per substitutions.
  • Preferred: vector-borne disease surveillance, leadership in a team, publications, supervisory experience, GIS/SAS/R/Excel familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Track expenditures related to the Lyme and Tick-borne Disease initiative, including fund disbursements and award purposes.
  • Process contracts and payments, liaise with vendors and internal stakeholders, and support procurement for educational materials.
  • Develop regular reports on fund balance and issues for DEPI and CCH management with proposed solutions.
  • Provide scientific/technical guidance on vector-borne diseases to local health units and act as SME for the Vector-borne Disease program.
  • Supervise lower-level staff and coordinate field activities including mosquito and tick surveillance.
