Job summary

The New York State Education Department’s Office of Information Reporting Services invites applications for a Research Scientist 3 to lead SLDS data research and evaluation initiatives in Albany, NY. The role serves as the principal liaison to state agencies, research institutions, and external partners for policy, program, and operational research.

This permanent, full-time position requires supervising staff, directing complex studies, and presenting findings to executives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of professional research experience.
• Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; Ph.D. may substitute for an additional year.

Responsibilities

• Formulate policy-relevant research questions and design complex studies.
• Serve as subject matter expert on SLDS data assets and governance.
• Collaborate on analytic datasets, data marts, and performance indicators.
• Oversee development, maintenance, and QA of research datasets.
• Perform advanced statistical analyses and provide evidence-based recommendations.
• Manage external research partnerships and data-sharing agreements.
• Author technical reports, briefs, and presentations; present to leadership.
