Works under limited supervision to provide supervision of assigned Registered Dietitian (RD) and Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) staff in addition to maintaining clinical practice within designated department or specialty area.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

Education

Effective January 1, 2024, a graduate degree will be required for new candidates who qualify for the certification exam. Candidates who qualify for the exam or have received their Registered Dietitian credential prior to January 1, 2024 are grandfathered and will only require a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

2 years of experience in a Registered Dietitian role to include 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.

Licenses and Certifications

(RD) REGISTERED DIETITIAN by Commission on Dietetic Registration and (LD) LICENSED DIETITIAN in the State of Texas If awaiting LICENSED DIETITIAN (LD) credential at time of hire, must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must be supervised by a Licensed Dietitian while undergoing the preceding.

JOB DUTIES
  • Oversees daily operations for nutrition care within designated department or specialty area, to include but not limited to staffing, coverage schedules, and nutrition care administration and oversight. Generates data surrounding the performance and productivity of supervised staff. Reviews current deployment of staff and coordinates with other members of the healthcare team to supervise nutrition care and identify opportunities for future optimization.
  • Supervises, motivates, rewards, directs, and counsels employees as appropriate, ensuring that department policies, procedures and time duties are followed.
  • Coordinates departmental payroll activities including time keeping, payroll reporting, and attendance log where designated.
  • Demonstrates mastery and supervises the provision of nutrition care, including staff performance of medical nutrition therapy, nutrition-focused physical examination, nutrition support interventions, and therapeutic management of patients within the scope of practice and licensure.
  • Leads development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives pertaining to nutrition care and/or clinical research protocols within designated department or specialty area. Is actively involved in department, community, and retail programs.
  • May provide oversight to placing enteric feeding tubes per Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scope of Practice and individual department policy.
  • Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to coordinate and provide nutrition care. Attends and leads meetings/conferences with medical team, nursing, clinics, social services, and other allied health professional personnel concerning patient care and department initiatives.
  • Oversees educational nutrition programs and in-service training. Coordinates and oversees the precepting of dietetic interns. Provides feedback and guidance when appropriate.
  • Promotes staff participation in departmental and institutional continued education opportunities.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings to identify barriers to patient care and leads discussions to develop resolutions to such barriers. Reviews meeting results with appropriate leadership.
  • Leads clinical team in the absence of the clinical manager.
  • Oversees the maintenance and revision of department policies, procedures, objectives, and performance improvement projects. Leads continuous, objective, and performance-based improvement to achieve quality standards (i.e. Joint Commission, etc.).
  • Reports observed staff events affecting access, productivity, and/or clinical practice. Discusses any identified barriers to providing optimal care. Supports collaborative correction or remediation where appropriate.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of assigned staff in conjunction with appropriate leadership, reviews safety events or issues related to clinical practice quality and safety as designated by leadership.
  • Facilitates research projects and protocols as appropriate and routinely applies evidence-based to patient care.
  • Participates and leads assigned committees and/or programs including planning, rounding, participating, coordinating, and follow up for aspects of the committee.
  • Provides support and direct participation in patient satisfaction to influence the Press Ganey scores of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
