Job summary

Valley Hospital is seeking a Lead Music, Art Recreation, (MART) Therapist to lead therapeutic services within an interdisciplinary team. You will help plan and implement treatment goals and provide continuous patient care and role modeling to patients in a psychiatric setting.

The role requires a relevant degree (Music, Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy or Occupational Therapy) and experience in psychiatric care.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor's in Music or Recreation Therapy, or related field; or a Master's in Art Therapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Two years of related experience in psychiatric patient care preferred.
  • Certification/licensure in Music, Art, Recreation, or equivalent within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MART therapist duties as directed by the Director of MART to support defined treatment goals.
  • Provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and model behavior within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Work flexible hours and potential overtime as needed.

We are a private 122 bed psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health care and chemical dependency counseling services. Valley Hospital is centrally located with easy access to many areas of greater Phoenix. We are between North 35th and 36th Streets with East Earl to our north and East Thomas to our south.

Position Summary:

The Lead Music, Art Recreation, (MART) Therapist performs leadership duties as directed by the Director of MART. These duties will support the department’s goal of planning and implementing specific therapeutic services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Music, or Recreation Therapy, or related therapeutic discipline; or a Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Occupational Therapy
  • Two (2) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
  • Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas:
  • Music, Art, Recreation, or Music Therapy, or the ability and qualifications to obtain licensure or certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification prior to hire
  • Successful completion of Preventative Management Aggressive Behavior Training (SAMA) prior to assisting with a restraining procedures.
  • May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
