Qualifications

Position Summary

The Lead, Rangemaster is responsible for the operation of shooting ranges, overseeing shooting and safety procedures for testing, and be responsible for the range facilities and equipment in accordance with written policy and best practices to ensure the highest level of safety. They will provide technical and operational support in the completion of assigned projects and support of organizational goals. The Lead, Rangemaster draws on prior Rangemaster experience, firearms experience, and technical and creative skills to support the execution of test processes on firearm systems. The Lead, Rangemaster will collaborate with Test Technicians and Test Engineers within Research & Development as well as other employees with range access.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate validation of safety procedures for no standard testing and shooting events with EHS and stakeholders of testing and shooting events.
  • Plan, resource, and execute range updates and improvements to improve and expand testing capabilities in support of testing and Research & Development teams.
  • Test & Evaluation and Research & Development representee for writing and maintaining Rangemaster requirements and classes to qualify Rangemasters.
  • Independently, safely, and effectively operate hand and power tools to construct or assemble targets and fixtures out of wood and metal as assigned.
  • Proactively display ownership of Research & Development ranges in all respects to include safety, maintenance, usage, organization, improvement, and scheduling. Ensure a welcoming range experience for all employees and visitors, deescalate conflicts, and foster cooperation.
  • Establish and execute range accuracy and safety qualification testing for range certified SIG SAUER Inc. employees.
  • Seek opportunities to remediate shooting issues by observing and mentoring range certified employees one-on-one as appropriate.
  • Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree preferred. A minimum of 2+ years of Rangemaster experience and a minimum of 5+ years of previous experience instructing others on firearms use at a Police Department, Agency, or in the Military required.
  • Experience teaching machine gun operation, able to identify and troubleshoot common to complex firearm malfunctions, and extensive experience using and maintaining firearms is required.
  • Maintain qualifications to act as a Range Safety Officer to include passing First Aid/Trauma Management classes, maintain certifications as Academy Instructor in all available shooting disciplines, and maintain range certification while always handling and shooting firearms in accordance with SIG SAUER INC policy.
  • Department of Defense Firearms Qualification in M17, M4, M249, and M240, and pistol, rifle, and shotgun training certifications from a recognized firearms academy required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to complete tasks as assigned in a timely manner and require little supervision.
Working Conditions
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates
