Job summary

Position Summary: The Instructor I will proficiently instruct any of the courses assigned using the approved lesson plans by conducting classroom and practical exercises to achieve course objectives. This position requires working in a team environment with students and internal SIG employees from all business units, as well as the general customer base.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide optimal training environment in the classroom and on the range utilizing SIG SAUER Academy instructional methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Provide expert instruction of designated basic level courses as assigned using approved lesson plans.
  • Assist and lead, as capable, all core classes.
  • Leverage background and experience to lead, assist, and grow the Academy's capabilities.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of firearms safety practices, policies and procedures.
  • Complete Instructor Training Program course curriculum consisting of basic and intermediate level course materials.
  • Serve as support to business groups within the company.
  • Represent the SIG SAUER Academy during events, conferences, trade shows, commercial sales events, and other interactions with the public. Maintain a professional image and follow standards of conduct while representing SIG SAUER at company-related events.
  • Assist in developing firearms courses.
  • Flexibility to travel both domestically and internationally up to two (2) weeks per month.
  • Communicate effectively to leadership regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Participate in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required and 2+ years of experience in providing training in safe handling, manipulation, and implementation of firearms preferred.
  • Law enforcement or military instructor level experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of weapons, tactics, and the proper handling and use of a wide variety of firearms including handguns, rifles, shotguns, and automatic weapons.
  • Prior Armorer experience is a plus.
  • Flexibility to travel both domestically and internationally up to two weeks per month.
  • Expert knowledge of firearms safety practices and procedures in any environment.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Expert presentation skills and the ability to speak in a public setting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Communicate effectively to leadership regarding problems and corrective action.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) with the exception of breaks/lunch periods.
  • The duties of this position typically require exposure to a shooting range where frequent standing, kneeling, running, sitting, crouching, crawling, twisting, grasping and walking can be expected along with frequent lifting up to 40 pounds and/or moving of equipment cases and materials up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, be able to grip, reach, pull, and turn.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.
  • Assignments will require exposure to varying climate and environmental conditions both extreme cold and warm weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to a variety of firearms and other weapons, related chemicals, gun cleaning solvents, ammunition and explosive materials, ammunition smoke and hand and power tools related to weapon and range repairs; additional information is available from EHS upon request.
  • Work includes exposure to extreme noise of firearms, requiring the use of ear protection equipment. Must possess mobility, vision, hearing, and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
