Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker in Towson, Maryland, is seeking a Lead, Quality Software Performance for a hybrid role. You will lead performance engineering across software apps, building scalable, testable workloads and reusable Gatling frameworks.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years building performance automation frameworks and reusable testing utilities.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Gatling, Node.js, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript for performance tests.
  • Proficiency with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Splunk, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience defining performance objectives, SLAs, and capacity requirements.
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead performance engineering initiatives across software applications and services with a hands-on approach.
  • Identify performance risks early in the SDLC and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Establish performance standards, frameworks, and a design-for-performance culture.
  • Build workload models for normal, peak, stress, spike, and endurance scenarios.
  • Develop reusable Gatling test frameworks and libraries to improve efficiency.
  • Analyze Gatling reports to identify latency, throughput, errors, and resource usage.
  • Promote reusable, maintainable performance automation with version control.
  • Create scripts to generate test data, orchestrate workloads, validate responses, and run tests.
  • Define performance objectives, SLAs, throughput requirements, and capacity expectations.
  • Partner with development, architecture, DevOps, and product teams to deliver scalable apps.

The Job:

As a Lead, Quality Software Performance, you’ll be part of our Construction Technology team working as a hybrid employee.

  • Lead performance engineering initiatives across software applications and services with a strong hands-on approach.
  • Identify performance risks early in the software development lifecycle and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Establish performance engineering standards, frameworks, and best practices, and drive a performance-by-design culture across teams.
  • Build realistic workload models covering normal, peak, stress, spike, and endurance scenarios.
  • Develop reusable Gatling test frameworks and libraries to improve test development efficiency.
  • Analyze Gatling reports and test metrics to identify latency, throughput, error-rate, and resource-utilization issues.
  • Promote reusable, maintainable, and version-controlled performance automation.
  • Build scripts and tooling to generate test data, orchestrate workloads, validate responses, and automate performance test execution.
  • Define performance objectives, SLAs, response time targets, throughput requirements, and capacity expectations.
  • Partner closely with development, architecture, DevOps, and Product teams to deliver highly scalable and reliable applications.

  • Experience analyzing application behavior under load and identifying performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience defining performance objectives, service-level expectations, and capacity requirements.
  • Strong collaboration skills with development, architecture, DevOps, and Product teams.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

The Salary range for this position is $95,600.00 - $153,900.00 This is the lowest to highest annual full-time salary range we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. The salary offered within the range may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and in compliance with local wage requirements.
