SURGE Staffing is seeking a Quality Inspection Supervisor / Team Lead to oversee inspection, sorting, containment, and rework across automotive facilities in the Detroit area. The role requires coordinating daily activities, leading teams, and ensuring products meet customer quality standards.

The Team Lead will travel between Auburn Hills, Warren, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, and Troy to supervise inspection teams and launch jobs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
• Previous quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
• Previous supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred, ideally three or more years.
• Ability to lead a team, communicate instructions clearly, and hold employees accountable.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
• Willingness to travel between facilities.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and experienced Quality Inspection Supervisor / Team Lead to oversee inspection, sorting, containment, and rework operations at automotive manufacturing facilities throughout the Detroit area.

This position is ideal for someone with previous quality inspection experience who is ready to lead a team, coordinate daily activities, and ensure products meet customer quality standards. The Team Lead will travel between multiple facilities, including Auburn Hills, Warren, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, and Troy, to launch jobs and supervise inspection teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate inspection, sorting, containment, and rework activities at automotive manufacturing facilities.
• Lead inspection teams and ensure employees follow customer specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Oversee assigned employees and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
• Coordinate job startup activities, including workstation setup, tables, tools, materials, and required paperwork.
• Provide on-the-job training and communicate work instructions to team members.
• Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and compliance with company policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Ensure employees follow all health and safety procedures and immediately report accidents or incidents.
• Review timesheets, inspection documentation, and other required paperwork at the end of each shift.
• Communicate job updates, production concerns, and outstanding tasks to management and incoming Team Leads.
• Ensure appropriate tools, materials, and resources are available to complete assigned projects.
• Report performance concerns, policy violations, and quality issues to the Supervisor or Manager.
• Travel between assigned facilities throughout the Detroit area as business needs require.

Qualifications

• Previous quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
• Previous supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred, ideally three or more years.
• Experience with sorting, containment, inspection, or rework operations is preferred.
• Ability to lead a team, communicate instructions clearly, and hold employees accountable.
• Basic math skills and the ability to complete paperwork accurately.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Reliable attendance, professional conduct, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between multiple work locations.

Schedule and Availability

• 1st Shift: 4:00 AM–3:00 PM, with additional hours as required.
• Split Shift: Approximately 11:00 AM–7:00 PM, with additional hours as required.
• Monday–Friday, with overtime and weekend availability as needed.
• Must be flexible to support 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift based on customer and operational needs.

Schedules and hours may vary depending on assigned projects and customer requirements.

Work Locations

This position supports automotive manufacturing facilities throughout the Detroit metropolitan area, including Auburn Hills, Warren, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, and Troy. Candidates must be comfortable traveling between facilities and supporting multiple teams and shifts as needed.
