Job summary

Laurus in Indiana's Independence Village is seeking a Medication Aide to assist residents with daily medication administration, documentation, and safety.

The role requires CMA certification, CPR/First Aid, TB clearance, insulin certification, and a compassionate, patient approach; prior geriatrics experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in geriatrics care or with elderly population preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • CMA certification required.
  • TB clearance required.
  • Insulin certification required.
  • Ability to work with residents at varying cognitive levels.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as ordered by physician.
  • Verify resident identity before administering medication.
  • Maintain infection control and handwashing procedures.
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Remove expired medications per policy and procedure.
  • Ensure accuracy of medication records for your shift.
  • Report discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Document important events in the 24-hour report and charts.

Position Summary

Medication Aide Independence Village Position Summary As a Medication Assistant you will assist residents in administering their daily medication

Required Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous Healthcare Geriatrics Caregiving or experience working with the elderly population preferred
  • Ability to adjust to many types of personalities and situations
  • Must have aptitude for dementia related situations
  • Realization that incompetence and errors may have serious consequences for residents
  • Must have patience tact cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to assist residents based on what cognitive level they are experiencing
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must have CMA certification
  • Must have a TB clearance
  • Must have Insulin Certification
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and administer medication and treatments as ordered by physician in accordance with policy and procedures
  • Verify identity of resident before administering medication or treatment
  • Follow hand washing policy for medication passing universal precautions and infection control
  • Order mediations supplies and equipment as necessary in accordance with established policy
  • Remove expired or discontinued medications for cart and resident apartments as required in accordance with established procedure
  • Ensure medication records are accurate for your shift and keys are always accounted for
  • Review medication sheets for completeness and accuracy
  • Report all discrepancies noted concerning physicians orders medication count or any other unusual situations and complaints regarding resident services and care to your immediate supervisor
  • Chart and perform documentation duties are required in accordance with community policy and procedures
  • Assist in admit transfer and discharge of residents as requested
  • Review charts for specific treatment medication diet orders etc as needed
  • Notify nurse in charge of changes in resident condition including medication and treatment refusal
  • Make sure work areas medication and treatment cart medication room nurses station etc are maintained in a clean sanitary manner
  • Always show courtesy respect and positive attitude to residents familys visitors and associates
  • Report accidents and incidents observed on the shift they occurred
  • Report suspected abuse immediately
  • Document important events in the 24 hour report
  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Encourage the Social development of each resident
  • Assist with light housekeeping including emptying the trash and changing linens
  • Escort residents to and from dining areas for meals; assist with tasks related to dining as needed
  • Perform any duties delegated by supervisor in order to maintain the self respect personal dignity and physical safety of each resident while adhering to the standards of Residents Rights and all applicable state Federal and local licensing requirements and regulations
General Working Conditions

This position entails standing for long periods of time While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to communicate effectively with others sit stand walk and use hands to handle keyboard telephone paper files and other equipment and objects The employee must be able to read write and speak fluent English The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and pushpull equipment frequently The employee is expected to possess good organization skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines The employee must be compassionate and empathetic The employee will occasionally lift andor move up to 25 pounds The employee may frequently bend reach grasp and climb The employee may need to squat and kneel The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others The noise level in the work environment is moderate Occasional travel to different locations may be required
