Job summary

Image Engineering seeks a Lead Pyrotechnician to head the safe preparation, execution, and strike of pyrotechnic effects for live events at our Baltimore, MD headquarters. You will act as onsite technical leader, ensuring compliance with NFPA standards, permits, and company procedures while coordinating with producers, venues, and regulatory bodies.

The role requires 3–5 years of pyrotechnics experience, a valid license or ability to obtain, and the ability to lead crews under pressure.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in professional pyrotechnics, including proximate and large-scale displays.
• Valid Maryland or applicable regional pyrotechnician/operator license, or ability to obtain required licenses.
• Experience leading crews and coordinating with Producers, venues, and regulatory authorities.
• Experience with FireOne or comparable pyrotechnic firing systems.
• Strong understanding of NFPA 1123 and NFPA 1126 and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead setup, operation, and strike of pyrotechnic and special effects systems for live events.
• Serve as primary onsite technical lead for pyrotechnic productions and ensure safety and compliance.
• Mentor and direct field technicians; coordinate with stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
• Inspect equipment, review plots and plans, and address issues pre-show and during events.
• Develop knowledge of emerging technologies and cross-train in related effects disciplines.
