Job summary

The City of Miami Beach is seeking a responsible trainee for the Pump Shop with a focus on installing, operating, and maintaining water, stormwater, and sewer pumping equipment and facilities. You will supervise crews, monitor pump performance, and respond to failures to ensure continuous service.

The role involves a 24/7 on-call element, safety compliance, and hands-on work with electrical and mechanical systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsements within 12 months.
• Must obtain FWPCOA Level 3 Utilities Maintenance Certification within 12 months.
• Must obtain FDEP Class 3 Water Distribution License or Florida Class WTPO license or higher within 18 months.
• Must obtain NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within six months.
• Must obtain Intermediate MOT within 12 months.
• Shift work includes nights, weekends and holidays.
• This trainee position requires promotion to Pump Shop Mechanic C within 18 months after satisfactory performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in installation, maintenance, and repair of pumping equipment, stations, and facilities.
• Trains and evaluates workers across skills levels.
• Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
• Plans and executes crew work for operation and maintenance of utility systems.
• Maintains safety standards and records of operations and equipment.
• Maintains and inspects pumping stations and related facilities.
