Job summary

UCSF, through the Alliance Health Project in San Francisco, seeks a Trainer/Curriculum Writer to resolve complex public education program issues, develop courses and assessments, and act as a subject matter expert for accredited public education programs.

The role collaborates with a team to create trainings on HIV/HCV/STI testing technologies, counseling skills, Motivational Interviewing, and LGBTQ+ health topics, including PCC, across California.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • At least two years counseling experience, ideally HIV, HCV and STI test counseling
  • At least two years' experience working with HIV and populations disproportionately affected by HIV
  • At least two years working with HIV-related and LGBTQ-related health topics, including sexual and substance use, and comfort approaching them in a client-centered way
  • Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments (i.e., Word, Excel, Qualtrics, Keynote, PowerPoint, Zoom, and comfort interacting with online learning management sytems ( ie Articulate, Moodle cloud etc) and calendaring programs).
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of accredited and / or certificate program instruction and delivery methodologies, the organization, market and business strategies.
  • At least three years' experience conducting trainings, applying adult learning theory
  • At least two years' experience researching, writing, and developing synchronous and asynchronous curricula, and other learning materials
  • At least two years' experience applying theories of cultural humility
  • Willingness to undertake multi-day travel, including occasional national travel
  • Demonstrated excellence in reliability, timeliness, and attendance
  • Thorough and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes evaluation criteria for measuring desired results and impact for sets of courses or site‑specific technical assistance interventions, for individual courses, based on learning goals and populations, and for individual participants.
  • In collaboration with team of trainers, determines methods and procedures for current and new course offerings and site‑specific technical assistance interventions/courses on a range of general and unique topics, throughout California. Among the areas in which trainers are expected to deliver synchronous trainings are HIV,HCV and STI testing technologies, frontline provider interpersonal and counseling skills, Motivational Interviewing, substance use, Cultural Humility and sensitivity, especially focused on LGBTQ and BIPOC populations, and a range of HIV prevention interventions, including Personalized Cognitive Counseling and HIV Testing in Non-Clinical Settings.
  • Plans and develops programs and curriculum, and adjusts existing courses and curriculum for the California Department of Public Health Office of AIDS (OA) official statewide HIV test counselor certification program and for the nationwide Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) official high-impact prevention (HIP) intervention: Personalized Cognitive Counseling (PCC).
  • Collaborates with Program Manager and other training staff to evaluate prospective program partnerships, and drafts program partnership plans.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of other instructors on the team, and responsible for training and evaluation of staff from other agencies during Training of Trainers.
  • Evaluates and adjusts course curriculum through participant evaluations and levels of interest shown
  • Other duties as assigned, including logistics coordination, technical expertise regarding online systems, editorial expertise, advanced outreach for educational programs, and limited HIV counseling and testing to ensure continuing frontline knowledge of key area.
