McGuireWoods LLP seeks a Public Finance Counsel to join its Public Finance Practice Group in a national capacity with a focus on key markets including Baltimore. The role involves leading transactions from structuring through closing, acting as a primary client contact, and mentoring junior lawyers.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in public finance, excels in writing and oral communication, and is admitted to practice in the relevant state or eligible for admission.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of public finance experience including substantial tax-exempt bond experience in a top 100 law firm or comparable setting.
• Lead tax-exempt and taxable financing transactions from start to finish as bond/underwriter's/lender's/borrower's counsel.
• Deep knowledge of federal tax requirements for tax-exempt obligations and related documents.
• Experience with real estate, secured lending, and project finance transactions is a plus.
• Ability to manage complex transactions and supervise junior lawyers.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Take a leading role on transactions from structuring through closing with independence.
• Serve as primary point of contact for clients, issuers, underwriters, lenders and other working group members.
• Supervise and mentor associates and paralegals; collaborate with partners to develop client relationships.
• Support the practice's business development efforts.
