Job summary

Telex LLC seeks a Lead Protection and Control Technician to own commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of protective relaying schemes across generation, transmission, and distribution substations.

With 5+ years of field experience, you will mentor junior technicians, collaborate with clients and engineering teams, and ensure safety and reliability on mission-critical projects. Occasional travel required; valid driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years field experience in relay testing and substation commissioning.
• Expertise in three-phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA, and automation systems.
• Perform advanced end-to-end relay testing using Omicron Test Universe, Doble Protection Suite, and RTS.
• Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, advanced logic, and communication-assisted protection schemes.
• Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3 and Modbus; use Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
• Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
• Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
• Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver world-class reliability.
