Job summary

ABB is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer for a full-remote role with preference for candidates in Northern California. You will serve as the technical lead for engineering activities in assignments, ensuring cost‑effective and compliant designs across multiple disciplines.

You will also act as design authority for a specific discipline and coordinate with project teams and customers. The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred), 5+ years in protection &

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
5+ years of experience in protection & control projects for utility customers.
Ability to read, correctly interpret, and apply electrical one‑lines, schematics, and instruction manuals.
PE License in California required.
Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

Lead and support engineering design activities for new and existing substations protection & control/automation systems.
Develop engineering documentation and perform analyses—schematics, logic diagrams, layouts, BOMs, reports, and calculations.
Manage project materials, construction design packages, and technical issue resolution with communication to project teams, management, partners, and customers.
Ensure adherence to safety practices, industry standards, and company/customer requirements while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and training to maintain proficiency.
