Job Summary
The Lead Project Manager, EPC Projects (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and successful execution of complex capital projects from project initiation through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and closeout. This role serves as the single point of accountability for project performance, ensuring delivery of project objectives related to safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction. The Lead PM provides leadership to multidisciplinary project teams, manages customer and stakeholder relationships, oversees contract execution, and drives risk mitigation strategies to achieve exceptional project outcomes while maintaining compliance with contractual, regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of EPC project delivery from initiation through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, start-up, and project closeout.
- Establish project objectives, execution strategies, governance practices, and performance metrics to ensure successful delivery of safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, and customer requirements.
- Develop and manage integrated project plans, budgets, schedules, forecasts, and project controls processes to achieve financial and operational objectives.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and optimize internal, subcontractor, supplier, and consultant resources to support efficient project execution.
- Direct project risk management efforts, including identification, assessment, mitigation planning, contingency development, and resolution of critical project issues.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, customer requirements, company standards, regulatory requirements, environmental permits, and safety expectations.
- Administer project contracts and oversee change orders, claims, disputes, commercial correspondence, and contract amendments.
- Serve as the primary customer representative and maintain effective relationships with customers, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, suppliers, and community partners.
- Provide regular project reporting to customers and senior leadership regarding project performance, financial status, schedule progress, risks, and corrective actions.
- Lead cross-functional coordination and decision-making activities to resolve issues, remove barriers, and maintain alignment across project disciplines.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development through leadership, mentoring, coaching, and succession planning.
- Ensure project quality requirements are achieved through implementation of quality management processes, inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture and drive proactive health, safety, environmental, and risk management practices across all project phases.
- Oversee project closeout activities, including final deliverables, as-built documentation, operational handover, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business management, or a related technical discipline
- Advanced degree preferred, including an MBA with a construction management concentration or a master's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressively responsible project management experience
- Minimum of five years managing large-scale EPC, industrial, energy, utility, infrastructure, or construction projects
- Demonstrated experience managing projects with significant budget, schedule, and technical complexity
- Strong understanding of EPC contracting strategies and project delivery models with proven track record of successfully delivering projects from conception through commissioning and closeout
- Knowledge of project controls, estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and earned value management
- Project Management Professional certification and Professional Engineer license preferred; other industry certifications related to construction, project controls, quality, or safety are considered beneficial
- Advanced proficiency with project management and project controls software, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, and similar platforms
- Advanced proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6, Procore, and MS Project; proficiency with Microsoft 365 and project collaboration tools
- Experience with Timberline and SAP
- Able to work effectively in fast-paced environments with competing priorities and demanding project schedules
Additional Requirements
- Office-based with up to 40% travel domestic/international to project sites, customer offices, supplier facilities, and regulatory agencies may be required
- Extended work hours may be necessary occasionally during critical project phases
