Job summary

Beyer Blinder Belle's Washington, DC office seeks an experienced Project Architect to lead architectural and engineering teams through design phases with a focus on an existing-building residential project.

You will collaborate with the Project Manager, consultants, and client to guide project documentation, manage regulatory reviews, and address constructability and existing-condition challenges while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional architectural experience, including significant project leadership.
• At least five years of experience on multifamily residential projects.
• Experience with renovation/rehabilitation/adaptive reuse of existing residential buildings.
• Registered Architect; sustainability accreditation preferred.
• Knowledge of Washington, DC codes, zoning, and permitting processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural document production and coordination across all project phases.
• Develop comprehensive contract documents with drawings, specs, and details.
• Evaluate existing building conditions with field observations and available documents.
• Identify and resolve challenges in renovation of existing residential buildings.
• Coordinate internal and external teams (structural, MEP/FP, civil, landscape, code).
• Lead coordination meetings and manage project schedules and deliverables.
• Mentor junior and intermediate team members and guide staffing.
• Communicate design and technical concepts clearly to clients and consultants.
