Job Summary

WSP is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to work in Orlando, Tampa, or Sunrise. The role involves a full project cycle – from design to construction close‑out – for large, complex projects focused on sustainability and energy performance. Key sectors include healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, labs, and industrial manufacturing.

Responsibilities include high‑level technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site and multi‑phase projects, research, design, concept development, planning, review of installation and integration of automatic temperature control systems, air distribution, hydronic and plumbing systems. The engineer will provide technical expertise, manage budgets, schedule compliance, and oversee quality control of project designs and documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage mechanical design on multiple projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, attend client meetings, and represent the team at project meetings.
  • Provide technical expertise for mechanical systems, including air distribution, hydronic systems, automatic temperature controls, and load calculations.
  • Conduct construction administration, project management, and quality control review of project designs and documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project budgets, monitoring compliance with time and schedule deadlines.
  • Plan and obtain additional work authorizations as required for scope changes.
  • Ensure profitability of the managed projects and select major equipment.
  • Work individually or as part of a cross‑functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements for data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring, and record retention.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making concerning company resources, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of relevant post‑education engineering experience, including prior mechanical design.
  • Project experience with buildings from design to construction close‑out.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems and automatic temperature controls for commercial systems.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary engineering skills, with the ability to work with clients to study different system types.
  • Hands‑on knowledge and experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • P.E. license required.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, practices, and project‑related applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in complex sectors such as healthcare and/or labs.
  • Experience with AHCA.
