Job Description

WSP is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Orlando office. The role involves working with architects and owners on large, complex projects focused on sustainability and energy performance. Responsibilities include technical guidance on due diligence, design, development, building and inspection of mechanical systems across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design to final construction close-out.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage mechanical design on multiple projects.
  • Serve as primary mechanical contact with clients and represent the team at project meetings.
  • Apply expertise to air distribution, hydronic systems, automatic temperature control system design, and cooling/heating load calculations.
  • Conduct construction administration, project management, and quality control review of designs and documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project budgets and ensure compliance with time/schedule deadlines.
  • Plan and obtain additional work authorizations for scope changes.
  • Accountable for project profitability and equipment scheduling.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientists on concurrent projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for data integrity, documentation, training, monitoring systems, and record retention.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of post‑education experience in mechanical engineering design.
  • Project experience from design phase through final construction close-out.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems and automatic temperature controls for commercial buildings.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proven track record of workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health and safety policies.
  • Capacity to work flexible schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • P.E. license is required.
  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, practices, and processes relevant to project work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in complex sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, labs, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with AHCA standards.
