Job summary

Champion Foods LLC in Michigan is seeking a working lead to supervise the production workforce, provide direction on operations, quality initiatives, food safety and equipment, and to lead in executing complex manufacturing tasks.

You will monitor performance, train new colleagues, maintain safety standards, and collaborate with supervision and HR on coaching and policy compliance while driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, FDA/USDA/OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to mentor and train others.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple production lines and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor with monitoring line performance and make improvements to meet schedules and quality standards.
  • Create production line schedules and direct workflow on assigned lines.
  • Ensure safety and food safety procedures are followed by all colleagues.
  • Train new production staff and ensure understanding of machine functions and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory changes and document issues with recommendations.

Job Summary :


Responsible for assisting the supervisor in overseeing the production workforce to maximize production yields, provide direction to production workforce on operations, quality initiatives, food safety and equipment. Monitor colleagues in the course of their work and provide leadership/direction for the team. This position will provide expertise in production equipment and may take the lead in assisting team members with practical ways to execute complicated operations. This position may provide direction for up to twenty-five (25) colleagues.This is a working lead position.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist the supervisor with monitoring the production line performance and make improvements or adjustments to the line to assure schedules are being met and quality standards are maintained.

  • Create production line schedules and direct the workflow of an assigned line(s) and activities of production colleagues.

  • Monitor colleagues during production activities to ensure adherence to safety and food safety handling procedures.

  • Responsible for training for new production colleagues and ensure colleagues have a clear understanding of machine functions and are operating equipment correctly and according to safety standards.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and technological changes that may affect the food industry, including Federal Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and British Retail Consortium (BRC). Investigate and document any compliance issues. Provide results and recommendations to management.

  • Work with supervisor to ensure compliance to company rules, policies and procedures. Promote a safe and fair working environment for colleagues and visitors.

  • Participate and lead team meetings,

  • Work with supervisor on colleague performance, development and team morale. Collaborate with Human Resources related to colleague development, performance management and policy compliance or other human resource related issues. Responsible for completion of performance appraisals for assigned colleagues.

  • Support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, operational, packaging or distribution environment or related industry.

  • Working knowledge of General Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), HACCP, Federal Drug Administration (FDA), USDA United States Department of Agriculture and OSHA requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and train others.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

  • Ability to utilize RedZone, Oracle and other software platforms as required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate to a wide variety of colleagues and temporary workers.

  • Evidence of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to organize and follow through on jobs and assigned projects on one or multiple production lines. Evidence of ability to multi-task and set priorities within department.

  • Must complete all identified leadership training modules within 1 year of accepting position


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Evidence of strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.

  • Previous experience supervising or providing work direction and coaching for development to teams, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance to regulations and policies.


Working Conditions:



  • Position may require continuous standing, lifting, bending and moving of heavy weight (up to 35 pounds)

  • Exposure to plant and manufacturing conditions such as temperature and noise, unlike those conditions found in an office environment.

  • This position may work weekends and non-traditional hours as needed, including holidays.
