LEAD AWS CLOUD ARCHITECT – LEAD PRODUCT MANAGER

• £725 per day via Umbrella
• Fully remote working
• Initial contract until October 2027
• Active SC and NPPV3 clearance required
• Acting as the technical counterpart to product owners

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is delivering complex cloud technology solutions, with a focus on secure, scalable and resilient digital services. They are looking for a technically strong Lead AWS Cloud Architect to shape cloud strategy, drive architectural standards and lead the design and modernisation of AWS environments.

THE LEAD AWS CLOUD ARCHITECT ROLE

As a Lead AWS Cloud Architect, you will take ownership of designing and governing secure, scalable and highly available cloud solutions. You will provide technical direction to engineering and DevOps teams, ensuring AWS architectures meet business requirements while maintaining strong security, performance, resilience and cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Designing scalable, secure and highly available AWS architectures using services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, VPC and CloudFront.
• Selecting appropriate AWS services based on business requirements, performance, resilience and cost.
• Defining and enforcing cloud architecture standards, reusable design patterns and best practices aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
• Providing technical leadership to engineering teams, developers, DevOps engineers and data specialists.
• Reviewing solution designs, performing architectural assurance and resolving complex implementation challenges.
• Establishing security controls covering IAM, encryption, network segmentation, monitoring and threat detection.
• Ensuring cloud solutions align with relevant compliance requirements, including GDPR, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS.
• Leading Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK, including reusable templates and modules.
• Optimising infrastructure performance, reliability and cost using tools such as CloudWatch, Trusted Advisor and Cost Explorer.
• Defining cloud migration and modernisation strategies, including rehosting, refactoring, replatforming and containerisation.
• Designing modern cloud architectures using microservices, serverless technologies, APIs and event-driven patterns.
• Working closely with product owners, business stakeholders and delivery managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Providing advanced technical support, leading root cause analysis and resolving high-priority incidents across AWS workloads.
• Identifying opportunities to improve, automate and modernise existing cloud environments.

LEAD AWS CLOUD ARCHITECT ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Extensive experience designing and delivering cloud architectures using AWS.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, VPC and CloudFront.
• Experience defining cloud architecture standards, design patterns and governance frameworks
• Strong understanding of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and cloud security best practices.
• Experience implementing IAM controls, encryption, network segmentation, monitoring and threat detection.
• Proven Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
• Experience with cloud migration, modernisation and designing microservices, serverless, API-based or event-driven architectures.
• Strong knowledge of cloud performance monitoring, reliability engineering and cost optimisation.
• Ability to provide technical leadership, conduct architectural reviews and guide engineering teams.
• Experience troubleshooting complex cloud infrastructure and application issues, including root cause analysis of major incidents.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
