The Opportunity
We're searching for a Lead Product Designer to craft the next generation of mobile experiences for millions of CBS Sports fans! You will lead design across our iOS and Android apps, setting the vision, defining strategy, and crafting engaging, user-centered solutions that balance fan needs and business goals.
You'll collaborate with Engineering, Product, Research, and the broader CBS Sports Design team to influence roadmap priorities, guide implementation, and deliver features that stand out in the competitive sports landscape. You will report to the Senior Design Director and play a key role in mentoring others and elevating our design craft across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Drive the design strategy for CBS Sports mobile products, balancing business goals, technical constraints, and fan needs.
- Partner closely with Design, Product, and Engineering to define priorities, shape roadmaps, and make impactful product decisions.
- Rapidly ideate and iterate-from wireframes to polished prototypes-while weaving in motion, animation, and delightful moments that elevate the fan experience.
- Design with performance and accessibility in mind, ensuring experiences are inclusive, fast, and enjoyable.
- Leverage user research and data to inform design direction and validate outcomes.
- Advance our design system (Playbook), ensuring consistent, high-quality experiences across mobile touchpoints.
- Present your work with clarity and strategic thinking, receptive to feedback and open to evolution.
- Mentor designers, helping them navigate challenges, sharpen their skills, and drive excellence.
Key Projects You Might Work On- Evolving personalized content and video playback, ensuring fans get relevant, high-quality experiences that drive repeat usage.
- Designing editorial storytelling tools to support tentpole events, breaking news, and on-demand moments of interest.
- Enhancing the live game data and scoring experience across mobile platforms, delivering real-time updates tailored to core fan personas.
- Optimizing the experience for tablet users, with layouts and interactions purpose-built for larger screens.
- Collaborating with CBS News to develop unified cross-brand experiences that leverage familiarity and benefit each other.
- Leveraging native platform features like widgets, live activities, haptics, and voice to increase delight, functionality, and performance.
- Driving efforts to shift and expand audience demographics, making the product more inclusive and accessible to new generations of sports fans.
- Supporting initiatives that increase user retention and improve long-term engagement through personalized experiences and meaningful fan journeys.
What We're Looking For- Experience & Leadership
- 8+ years of product design experience focused on consumer-facing mobile applications.
- Proven track record delivering and maintaining large-scale software products.
- Experience setting and articulating design strategy in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
- Ability to set and meet deadlines, adapt to change, and lead through ambiguity with strategic foresight.
- Demonstrated success managing, mentoring, or coaching product designers.
- Confidence influencing cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
Skills & Mindset- Expert in visual and interaction design with strong craft in motion, animation, and system thinking.
- Proficient in Figma (or equivalent tools) and design system implementation.
- Understands the nuances between iOS and Android platforms and when to follow or deviate from native patterns.
- Clear, persuasive communicator who can advocate for users and design clearly across stakeholders, from developers to executives.
- Committed to inclusivity, accessibility, and continuous improvement.
- Champions innovation and continuous learning, both personally and across the team.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $135,000.00 - 170,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
