Job description

Are you ready to revolutionize adhesive tape with us?

At tesa, we're not just colleagues; we're collaborators who thrive on pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo. Our mission is to create sustainable adhesive solutions that improve the work, products, and lives of our customers — we're passionate about making a difference!

Our team of scientists and engineers is looking for a talented and motivated individual to support our group as a Lead Process Engineer for our North American Pilot Center, opened in 2023, designed to support small-scale experimentation and sampling for large-scale production success.

In the Lead Process Engineer role, you will be responsible for producing a wide range of adhesive tape prototype samples via chemical compounding, mixing, extrusion, and driving investments into new coating technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, adhesive tapes for the automotive industry such as cell wrapping and in-cell tapes for EV batteries, permeable air barriers for commercial and residential buildings, performance masking tapes, and electrical insulation tapes. You will play a key role in one of our most crucial development technologies in North America.

What you'll do:
  • Ensure safe operation and management of the Pilot Center
  • Define strategic goals for the Pilot Center and new investment projects
  • Operate machinery, especially extrusion, water-based coating, and other equipment related to trial requests
  • Coordinate and execute pilot plant trials, scheduling independently in collaboration with other functions such as product development and production
  • Manage safety, deadlines, costs, and evaluate technical trials, assessing raw materials, processes, and product properties
  • Work closely with HQ to implement LIMS databases and systems, analyze data, document, and communicate results
  • Lead and develop the Pilot Center team to achieve short-term success and long-term career growth
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you'll need:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in a production environment involving web coating and/or converting processes
  • Knowledge and experience in extrusion technology
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills for effective collaboration
  • Ability to stand at a workstation and move throughout the facility during most of the day
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., use both hands, with correctable vision and no color blindness
  • Knowledge of DOE methods
  • Understanding of machine maintenance
