Job summary

Croda is seeking a Lead Process Development Scientist in Alabaster, Alabama to lead liquid phase peptide synthesis process development, scale-up, and technology transfer for pharmaceutical and beauty actives.

You will collaborate with R&D and global teams, perform organic synthesis, and provide technical reports, while guiding cross-functional teams through development and transfer to commercial manufacturing. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field.
  • Eight+ years of plant and process development experience in fine chemical manufacturing.
  • Experience with process development, scale-up, and technology transfer.
  • Experience scaling from lab to commercial manufacturing.
  • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry; peptide synthesis preferred.
  • Proficient in HPLC/UPLC/LCMS/NMR/GCMS analyses.
  • Ability to manage technology transfers across sites; strong communication and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and technology transfer of liquid phase peptide synthesis processes.
  • Collaborate with global teams on peptide synthesis process development and new product development.
  • Perform organic synthesis experiments and analytical characterization.
  • Direct technology transfer activities and support commercial peptide manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot development challenges with R&D and manufacturing teams.
  • Review data and prepare technical reports, presentations, and lab documentation.
  • Communicate progress and technical recommendations to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate activities across global locations and maintain ELNs and compliance.
  • Support lab operations with safe practices, calibration, inventory, and maintenance.
  • Contribute expertise to high-impact global projects supporting Croda's growth.

As we deliver our ambitious 2030 Growth Strategy,we'relooking for a Lead Process Development Scientist to join our Pharma Solutions team in Alabaster, Alabama. This roleis responsible forleading process development, scale-up, and technology transfer activities for liquid phase peptide synthesis projects, supporting the successful commercialization of new products across pharmaceutical and beauty active applications.

Who We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Eight (8) +years of plant and process development experience within fine chemical manufacturing.
  • Proven experience with process development, scale-up, and commercial technology transfer.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling products from laboratory development through commercial manufacturing.
  • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry techniques.
  • Experience with peptide synthesis is preferred but notrequired.
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques including HPLC, UPLC, LCMS, NMR, and GCMS.
  • Experience managing technology transfers across manufacturing sites.
  • Understanding ofprocess safety, manufacturing operations, and commercialization requirements.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, result-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support technology transfer and manufacturing activities at other sites.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Collaborate with R&D scientists on the development and technology transfer of liquid phase peptide synthesis processes.
  • Partner with global teams to support internal and external projects involving peptidesynthesisprocess development and new product development.
  • Perform organic synthesis experiments and analytical characterization activities.
  • Lead technology transfer activities and provide technical support for commercial peptide manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot process development challenges in collaboration with R&D scientists and manufacturing teams.
  • Review experimental data and prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and laboratory documentation.
  • Communicate project progress, results, and technical recommendations to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate activities with multidisciplinary teams across global locations and business units.
  • Maintainaccurateelectronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) and ensure compliance with company documentation standards.
  • Support laboratory operations through safe work practices, equipment calibration, inventory management, facility upkeep, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Contribute technicalexpertiseto high-impact global projects that support Croda's growth strategy.
