Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Architect Engineer to lead systems engineering across the lifecycle for complex armament programs in the United States. This role emphasizes matrixed leadership, model-based approaches, and cross-disciplinary teamwork to ensure robust architectures and performance.

The candidate will drive requirements, verification, and integration efforts, leveraging AI-enabled tools while maintaining high standards of technical excellence and adaptability,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Aerospace, Computer, Mechanical, or related discipline).
  • 8+ years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with 6+ years; or a PhD with 4+ years.
  • Demonstrated cross-domain leadership experience in engineering-focused non-profits or organizations.
  • Strong background in Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience leveraging systems engineering tools with embedded AI.
  • Experience applying systems design principles using AI to develop and integrate advanced solutions.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and verifying complex systems to meet design specs and mission requirements.
  • Experience with MBSE.
  • Experience with Product Line Engineering (PLE).
  • Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
  • Experience with the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a government secret clearance (not required to start)

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities spanning concept development, requirements definition, system design, integration, verification, validation, and sustainment.
  • Act as a driver for cross-functional systems collaboration within a model-based engineering environment.
  • Drive the design and development of system architectures and define performance requirements.
  • Create and manage system requirements, specifications, and traceability across the lifecycle.
  • Negotiate and define performance objectives with stakeholders to align requirements with program goals.
  • Utilize advanced systems engineering processes and tools to align criteria with customers and stakeholders.
  • Establish design and technology maturity constraints that meet customer specifications.
  • Develop a comprehensive definition of the system’s external interfaces for integration.
  • Outline the system implementation approach and operational concept with usability in mind.
  • Deploy cutting-edge SE tools to improve efficiency and support CONOPS.
  • Facilitate trade studies, system sensitivity analyses, and performance optimization.
  • Support verification and validation activities across systems and simulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and customers to ensure requirements are met and evaluated.
